Hilton Head Day Trip to Beaufort Part 2

We had a wonderful day when we visited Beaufort, and will certainly go back again. It is only an hour from Hilton Head Island, and worth the trip.
The Beaufort Visitor Center is in the old Beaufort Arsenal, and well guarded, with this small cannon. It was built in 1798, and rebuilt in 1852, and housed the Beaufort Volunteer Artillery after it fought with the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.

The streets are lined with large trees, and hanging moss, so it is very picturesque, as you're driving along. Many scenes from Forrest Gump were shot here, so these trees might look familiar.

Many scenes from The Big Chill were also filmed here, so you might recognize some of the locations, if you have seen that movie. Was this bridge in one of the scenes?

You can see the bridge turning, in this short video that I took.

The harbor was very calm on the day of our visit, and filled with boats. A few slips were empty, so those boaters might have been out on the water, enjoying the day.

The waterfront boardwalk is well-maintained, and a great place to spend an afternoon. Even in the winter, the flower gardens are colorful.

There is an interesting variety of flowers, and an array of colors.

On our way back to Hilton Head, we passed this Olive Garden, and the parking lot was full of people in white shirts and black pants. The sign said that they were opening soon, so it must have been the dining room staff. Maybe they were getting some fresh air, after being cooped up for a day of training. Or maybe the new kitchen staff had set off the fire alarm, and they were waiting for the smoke to clear. ;-)
