From Hilton Head, it's only about an hour's drive to Savannah, Georgia. We had heard that it is a beautiful city, and we were not disappointed.
One of the first things that I noticed was this wagon full of flowers. This was in the City Market section of Historic Savannah, which is full of quaint shops and diners.
It's still winter, but the Savannah trees already had buds on them, with a promise of spring, soon to arrive. Most of the trees still have leaves, and many are covered with Spanish moss. Some are bare though, and they really stand out in the crowd! It doesn't look like this one will be bare for much longer.
The historic district has many stately homes, with beautiful gardens, filled with colorful flowers. The ruffled petals of these plants caught my eye.
There are 22 public squares in the downtown area, and they have plaques, statues, and of course, flowers. These white blooms look crisp and fresh against the dark green leaves.
The city's architecture is amazing, and we'll post pictures of our favorite buildings. However, you have to take some time to look at nature's beauty too. This delicate flower was my pick for the best bloom.
So, if you visit Hilton Head, take a day trip to Savannah, and visit some of the lovely gardens in the city's historic district.
