It was our first full day in Hilton Head, so we did some exploring, and decided to eat lunch at a nearby pub.We were close to Reilley's Grill & Bar (North End), so we headed in there. It looked clean, and the menu had reasonable prices.
We were greeted quickly, and shown to a booth. Before we sat down though, the waitress asked what we wanted to drink. It's nice to have prompt service, but that seemed a bit rushed! I like to have a minute or two to settle in, and then decide.
I ordered a coffee, which came quickly, along with two non-dairy creamer substitutes. The coffee was drinkable, but just barely – it tasted bitter and slightly stale. Maybe some real creamer would have smoothed out the flavor.
A different waitress took our lunch orders, and our soup and sandwiches were delivered by yet another person. The food was fresh and tasty, in reasonably sized lunch portions. I had a Pilgrim sandwich – Turkey, cranberry, bacon, lettuce and mayonnaise on pumpernickel bread – and enjoyed it. It came with a creamy coleslaw that had crispy cabbage, carrots and a few raisins in it. Apparently the Corned Beef sandwich was good too, as was the Beef Vegetable soup.
I finished my coffee midway through lunch, and no refill was offered. If the coffee had tasted better, I might have asked for more, but in most lunch spots the refills are offered automatically.
So, the food at Reilley's was good, and the service wasn't terrible, but there is room for improvement. And if you order the coffee, I hope you get a better cup than I had. ;-)
