Dinner at the Hilton Head Jazz Corner

Last Monday night, we had dinner at the Jazz Corner in Hilton Head. The food was excellent, as was the service and the evening's music. We would definitely go back again, and recommend it to friends.

Make a Reservation

You might be able to get a table for dinner if you just show up at the door, but I'd recommend that you make a reservation. The restaurant is fairly small, and all the tables were filled on the night we were there.
Monday is Local Appreciation Night, so there was no cover charge for those who came after dinner, to listen to the band.
You can see the calendar of upcoming events, and which nights still have seats available. Many nights were marked as "Sold Out" when we were booking our dinner, so try to plan ahead, so you won't be disappointed.

Delicious Appetizers

The service was excellent, and our waiter brought our drinks, while we looked through the menu.

As an appetizer, I had the Grilled Portobella Pizzaiola, that you can see in the picture below. It was a Portobella mushroom cap, with a pomodoro sauce, buffalo mozzarella, roasted vegetable ribbons, balsamic glaze and scallion oil. It was very tasty, and not too filling. The picture doesn't do it justice – it was too dark to get a good photo.

Mr. D had the Carolina Blue Crab and Hominy Fritter, which he really liked, and finished every bite. It had green tomato coulis, ancho chili oil, sweet corn cream and frizzled corn tortillas. Again, the room was too dark for a good picture.

Tasty Main Course

The dinner was not rushed, so our waiter gave us a few minutes to relax after finishing our appetizers. In some restaurants you almost feel pressured to eat quickly and get out, so they can use the table for the next set of guest. Not at the Jazz Corner – and we liked the relaxed atmosphere.
Mr. D ordered the Grilled Prosciutto Wrapped Jumbo Sea Scallops. They were topped with a herb butter sauce, and accompanied by spiced apple, red currant and pecan conserve, wild mushroom, Carolina gold risotto and frizzled mustard greens.
My main course was Spinach, Walnut and Pear Stuffed Chicken. It came with Natural jus, edamame succotash, sweet corn and Tillamook cheddar cheese grits, and I loved it. It was moist and very flavorful, and I would go back again, just for that!

Dessert and Jazz Corner Music

Our waiter suggested another break, before we ordered our desserts. Smart idea! By waiting a while, we were able to enjoy our desserts – Butterscotch Crème Bruleé (Mr. D) and Praline Trifle with dark chocolate coated biscuits (me) – without feeling too stuffed.
While we waited, the band got ready to perform. Our table was right at the front, so we knew that we'd have a great view of the band.

The night we were there, The Martin Lesch Band was performing. At the start of the evening, Jazz Corner owner, Bob Masteller, joined the band, playing the trumpet for a few lively tunes.
Martin Lesch played the piano, and sang backup. Clarence Williams played bass guitar and Chris Russell was on drums. Kirk Lee played trumpet and flugelhorn, and all musicians had a chance to shine in solos during the songs.
The music was a good mix of fast and slow tunes, featuring the Delta Bayou Blues. It was a great evening, and we enjoyed every part of it.

Jazz Corner Video

I found this video that shows Whitley Deputy singing "A Song for You", with Martin Lesch at the piano. This will give you an small glimpse of the great entertainment that you will enjoy.
